Police Officer Wounded

On a peaceful Sunday afternoon, 03 September 2017 five armed men entered a cellular phone outlet at Bayside Mall in Table View, whilst two more accomplices waited outside with a get-away vehicle.  The suspects threatened the staff and took numerous boxes with cellular telephones, before fleeing the scene.

All exit areas were blocked by police and other role players.  The vehicle of the suspects was observed in a road, not far from the mall and four suspects jumped out, shooting at officers.  The four suspects were arrested. The other three suspects continued with their escape and jumped off at another location, again, firing at officers, who returned fire.  Those suspects were also arrested.

The driver of the vehicle continued until Ashford Street in Sunningdale, where he jumped out and ran toward the West Coast Road.  When he noticed the police vehicle, he fired shots towards the officers, injuring one officer in the arm.  This suspect was also arrested.

Three firearms were recovered as well as the stolen property. The injured police officer was taken to a nearby medical facility and is recovering from his injury.
